You should explain to your three year old that there are other ways to show affection. Let her know that it is great that she loves the baby so much, but that the way she shows it could harm the baby. Offer other ways for her to show affection. Let her just look at the baby and talk to it without touching it or just tell the baby she loves her without kissing her. Still allow her to have fun. Maybe she could tell a story to the baby or help change the baby's diaper. Explain to her that when the baby gets older she can interact with it more.

Is there someone who smothers your 3 yr old and just really irritates her??? tell her the baby loves her but that she is making her feel like that particular person, tell her the way she feels with that person is the way the baby is feeling about her.....Dont get mad at her or yell at her or even punish her, she just wants your attention as much as the babies and I am pretty sure that she realizes that your not going to push her away but right now the baby needs all of the attention, and she probably feels that she needs to give her "mommy" attention too...She wants to be close to both of you's..... She is just trying to be a good big sister but just explain to her, get DOWN to HER level and look her in the eyes and TALK to her....she will understand.....dont tell her not to touch the baby though this pisses kids off and they will eventually resent the baby because they feel it is taking over their position......Give her something to hold on to like the bottle or pacifier or the blanket or something to keep those little hands occupied, tell her "Mommy needs you to be a big girl and help me with the baby, I cant carry this can you for the baby?"

Try to find stimulation for the 3 yr. old. Keep her occupied with other things that she loves. Explain to her how happy the baby is to have such a good big sister like her, but that the baby also needs room so that she can grow. Then just redirect her to something else that she loves to do. Make more playdates for her where she will be preoccupied with her friends to bother the baby. Good Luck!

Tell your 3 year old daughter that she loves and cares for her little sister but not to the extend of not letting her go and the baby might be hurt. Give her some other ideas like playing with her dolls, reading her with some child stories... and other ways and means to divert her attention.

a 3 yr old can hurt a baby, take appropriate action ,your baby's safety is first, you need to try not to hurt 3 yr old's feelings, but be persistent, I have 4, it is not all about making the 3 yr old happy, your baby is helpless, 3 yr old's are smarter than we think

How do YOU want your 4 yr. old to act? Decide that. Respectfully, you brought the child into the world and in doing so agreed to rear her. Be the adult I hope you are and show yourself and the world that you CAN rear her.
