I doubt any high-ranking' officials son or daughter would ever be sent to Iraq. They have a mysterious way of avoiding combat and danger during wartime (sort of like the way Bush avoided Vietnam).

It's not a question of who we want to send over there. We don't screen people to see if they're related to a politician before we give them ordersw to deploy. Some deploying units, minus the National Guard units especially, are hand picked. A bag of crap isn't going to get sent if he isn't fit to do so. I wish the general public would stay out of the anti-war battle and let the ones doing the time do all the talking. I was proud to serve my country and I wouldn't take a second of it back.

Forget their sons and daughters, I want THEM in the front lines.

You lead from the FRONT. Where did people ever get the idea that politicians were some kind of natural resource?

Every time we go to war, the president, vice president, the cabinet and both houses of congress belong in the front lines.
Politicians are very easy to replace.

Well, sir, in the US, that is the way it is. But, Iraq isn't the US. As a veteran, I see alot of people getting this misconception that all of the other nations in the world are like us. No disrespect meant, but, they aren't. We are stinking rich beyond our own comprehension, compared to most nations.

When we invaded Iraq, to topple Hussein's government, we wiped out their military and police structure. It takes teachers, veterans, and proper equipment and facilities to train an Army or a police force. What do they have? No teachers. No veterans. Nothing. We are responsible for rebuilding them, so that they can fend for themselves, once we leave.

Back to this American Wealth thing. Did you know that most developing countries have no idea that we have ketchup packets in fast food places? I had to have a serious sit down with my ex-father-in-law, who was from Peru, to explain the whole concept, and then impress upon him that he couldn't take them all. Alot of these people don't have anything resembling the luxuries we take for granted on a daily basis.

Now, there are congressionals with children in the Armed Forces. I don't know which ones, but they are there. We've heard them on the news, talking about it. We just chose to not hear things, and allow ourselves to become complacent. That is, until the stark reality hits of what a military duty truly is. Every servicemember has voluntarily laid down his/her life, in the name of our government. Getting panicky, and urging our politicians to make a hasty retreat endangers the lives of our kids in service, because the press is irresponsible with how it talks. Think on that. "Loose lips sinks ships!" is how the old quote goes. But, we forgot about that because we were the "Big Bad US of A." That was how Pearl Harbor happened. Complacency.

Everyone else (almost everyone) believe that it is long overdue to come home except those who have other interests and priorities than the well being of the US people . However, there are some who still believe there is still some capacity left to do more collateral damage and to hell with the goodwill of the people of the world and damn the International laws. And it does not cost them anything because their sons and daughters are not in the harm way. Rather they are making bundles for those who may later hire them as lobbyist.

Bush avoiding Vietnam? Where was slick Willy? He was a longhair in Russia putting the military down. There is proof of this. Yes, they would be on the front lines if their parents were Republicans. By the way, who was Pres. during Vietnam? It was L.B.J. He did everything wrong. He was a lousy Pres.,and was almost as bad as Jimmy Carter.Ugh!!! Willy was a joke!!

Senators Lieberman and McCain both have sons in the Marines. These are the only two I know of, so there may be others.

Sounds like your son is a better person than you are.

He is trying to give 23 million people a future - you are trying to deny them that future.

Does he know that you are working to tear down everything he has risked his life to do?

heavily, what does that could do with some thing? i do no longer understand why we are at conflict, nor do I degree with many (maximum) of the options our modern administration has made. yet I also keep in mind that the youngsters of politicians are not any further required to accept as true with their mothers and fathers, nor are they right here to grant up as information of their mothers and fathers dedication to a reason, conflict, and so on. in short, they're their personal human beings. that could be like you (the author of this question) having a figure who prefered to devour steak each and every evening, and as information of ways a lot they cherished it, made you devour it besides. It rather makes no experience. Sorry about the lame social gathering, it is all i ought to imagine of at this hour. besides. My aspect is, little ones are not any further right here for use as pawns in political video games.

Look at your spelling and basic grammar, now consider this, it is people like yourself that get the dirty work, if you had bothered to take some time at school and study, you and your precious son, might have become well enough educated to have avoided this situation. People like you who have a little more of that commonsense stuff than those people at the top, could have served us much better in taking their places - the long and short of that is - you only have your self to blame, and you shouldn't cry over spilt milk.
