No, alcohol and antibiotics do not chemically interact. I've done extensive reading on the matter. I've also gone out drinking before in your same situation - while on amoxicillin for strep throat - and no harm done. Just be sure to drink a ton of water afterward, recover in the morning (eat some healthy whole food - oranges, oatmeal), and take a vitamin.

It's true that it's not really great on the immune system to drink while it's trying to fight off an infection, but you'll be OK if you don't drink 'til you puke.

What makes you think that you need alcohol, while you are taking medicine in the form of an antibiotic.? The antibiotic is potent enough to take care of the strep throat. It is best, and any physician will advise you ,not to drink alcohol with any medications. It is better for your health and healing to stay off alcohol in any form, period. Get well soon, Merry Christmas

They generally tell you not to drink alcohol while on antibiotics b/c it can make it tougher for them to fight the infection. Lots of infections are almost 'fed' by alcohol---which is turned to sugar in the body, which increases bacterial growth. If you are feeling better, you are probably fine, just be sure to finish the entire prescription.

alcohol reduces the effectiveness of these antibiotics and if u are only taking them for a few days then last thing u need to do is reduce the effectiveness. some antibiotics such as metronidazole u must not drink with as they will make u vomit.

Certain antibiotics contain various amounts of matter that can inhibit the drug or worsen it, weaken it, etc. You shouldn't take any alcohol with drugs of any type.
