i get straight A's a lot, and I was wondering this. I mean, i do work hard, compared to the other students in my class, but how do I know if some of this is natural intelligence?

I have the exact same problem. I have four dogs: a Lab, a Cairn terrier, a peke/chi cross, and a chihuahua. So many people think Labs are the easiest dogs, Cairns are cute, and Chis are fun to tote around. Usually goes a little like this: Labradors are incredibly energetic. They go through this bouncy stage until they're about two if they're not corrected constantly. By "bouncy" I mean they jump all over you and everyone. I can take my four year old neutered male for a mile run and he's still raring to go. They need a lot of exercise as well as constant discipline and training. They're also big time shedders! I have to vacuum the room he's in twice a day and he's the only dog in there that really sheds! Cairn terriers are stubborn and mischievous. They're natural chasers and want to chase after everything! They're also big time diggers thanks to what they were originally used for. Chihuahuas are the most difficult breed I've encountered. My Chihuahua took a year to housebreak and even now he has accidents when he's walked four times a day. They're also big barkers, which is why some truck drivers use them for watchdogs. They're great at it! They also have a tendency to get snippity if babied. Nothing is worse that a yippy dog that snaps if bothered! Because of this they need lots of socialization and need to be treated like a dog instead of a baby. They're also incredibly fragile, so be prepared for money to be set aside just in case it breaks its leg jumping from the couch, etc. No one really asks about my Peke/Chi, but when they do I remind them that Pekes and Chis are difficult dogs to train so imagine them combined!!

Well, I was a straight A student as well. I earned it. I studied hard and even pulled all-nighters once in a while. My husband on the other hand was also a straight A student, but he doesn't have to try at all. I would have to read a chapter, highlight it and take notes and then study my notes. Not him, he only reads something over once and knows it completely. He memorizes everything. So, some one like him would be considered naturally smart. He's a pilot and recently he was tested on material (10 chapters) that required 80 hours of studying. Well, his friend studied for 80 hours and my husband studied for about 20. And of course my husband got a perfect score. Not fair!

There are many types of intelligences so it could be that you are a good test taker or good at memorization but it's best to think that it it part effort part natural but not all of one or the other. If you begin to think that it is just tall natural you may stop trying as much. I'll guess you are smart and a good worker with lots of ambition, don't worry about why just keep working hard!

You're obviously smart but you're also working hard, a great combination. Keep it up.

it's hard to tell.
do you ever not study for tests and still get As when other people dont?
you could take an IQ test, perhaps.
also, the SAT is based on potential rather than the ACT is on stuff you already know.
good luck to ya =]
(i was tested and got into gifted and talented... that sorta means i have more "natural" inteligence instead of just working hard (even tho i do))

you are probably a combination of both. one way to tell is to see what classes you are in, are they advanced/honors/ap? and to be honest it really doesnt matter who cares if your smart or if your just a hard worker either way you earned those A's fair and square. part of being smart is trying, one may be a genius but if they slack and do not finish assignments then they wont get flawless grades.

Well being smart is about working hard. So if you work hard, I guess you are a combination of both. =]
