it's harder to get in the Navy, as you need smarts, so there is a common jealousy.

There is just a pride and a competativeness there. One insits on being the best. The Marines say they are the best, but they are a branch of the Navy. The Navy gets all the new toys(aircraft, big boats) the Army gets what the Marines don't want.

The poor Air farts, they are left out in the cold some where.

GO NAVY! (I'm a Navy vet.)

Actually we get along quite well when there is a mission to take care of. I'm Army and I've worked with Air Force, Navy, and Marines are various times. We rag on each other kind of like sibling rivalry, but when the game is on we are family.

I agree with Princess, I've met a lot of stupid Navy guys. And Hunter was right when he quoted the Lt as likeing the Navy for the free rides, because Marine actually stands for "My A*s Rides In Navy Equipment". Don't get me wrong though, the Chair Force isn't any better. Haha, but seriously, we love all you guys and are proud to serve along side you. It's not our fault that Santa only delivers to the Army.... ;)

It's kinda like siblings. You can tease and pick on your brother or sister, but God help anyone else who tries. It's common knowledge that the Navy is the cream of the crop, that the Air Force is a bunch of powder blue prima donnas, the Army is full of people that judges put in the military, and the Marines, well, let's just say they were the kids that used to eat worms and stuff because their big brother told them to. The Coast Guard, they are treated like step-children but they probably have it the toughest - having to deal every day with stupid people, and doing it with the smallest budget of all.

Each has their own personal pride with their branch of the military but they also respect the other as well. They rag on the other branches because it is fun and it has been going on since there was a military! It's tradition. You know the Army Navy Game ect. It's just something that has always been and will always be. When it comes down to it they work together to win and they know that they need the others to complete a mission.

Most interservice Rivalry is just good natured kidding.

As a Navy Vet, I will rib the other services just as much as they crack jokes on me and others as well.

To the wing wipers (AirForce): Anyone can land a plane on a stationary 3 mile long runway. Try doing it on a 300 foot pitching rolling yawing deck in the middle of the night as it tries to run away from you at over 30 kts.

To the Grunts (Army): Your soldiers manuals are written for the 8th grade reading level (complete with cartoons of the soldier performing each step. Our manuals are are wiring and ciruitry diagrams. Our engineers and Mechanics go on to work in Nuclear plants. Your Mechanics go on to work in "Joe's Garage"

To the Jarheads (Marines): What can I say about men willing to charge right at the enemy mano a mano with the bad guys. Thru all sorts of bad weather and insects. boobytraps and fanatical idiots with guns. What can I say.
"Hey Chief, can you turn down the AC, I have to go fire a missile in a little while then get some more rest. Thanks"

and last but not least the Coast Guard: My hats off to you guys. As much as all the rest of us (Navy, Army, Marines) train to do our job. You DO the job every day. Rescuing Civvies who don't have the common sense to come in out of the storm.

But don't try to call yourselves the only REAL sailors when you are afraid to sail out of sight of the land. Leave that to us Blue Water big boys.

Joking aside: Every one of our branches have a very important function and the US would not be as strong as it is without any one of them. The Marines are our Rapid response force ready to go anywhere in the world at a moments notice and do some of the roughest and dangerous jobs there are.
Marines: The Few, The Proud. Semper Fidelis Guys

Army: Marines may be the first into the breach, but someone has to hold that breach. The Army is the bread and butter of the military. the most highly decorated and distinguished units in all the US military are Army.

Air Force: has always been on the cutting edge of military science and advanced weapons. They are also the keeper of our strategic defence. Our Nuclear Deterent that kept the Soviets at bay for the better part of a century.

Coast Guard: As I mentined above. the coast guard does what they are trained for every single day of the year. Not just during times of war. The Coast guard is ALWAYS at war. At war with the Sea and her storms. and the drug runners and smugglers, Piracy (yes there are still Pirates in the world) No Service has done more to directly serve the people we have all sworn to protect.

And my own beloved Navy...
Well someone has to babysit the rest of you jokers.

We Carry the Marines to combat and the medical personel that go into combat with the Marines are Navy Corpmen

We Fly where the Airforce cant because we can Move our Airbases where they are needed.

We support the Army with air support and missile strikes.

And the Coast Guard... Well I dont know that we do more for them than they do for us. After all they have to have better navigators for shallow water and reefs. Us Deep Water sailors dont have much to run into out here.

Hmm good question, I'd like to know the answer to this myself.. I live in San Diego and there are a lot of Navy and Marine guys around and they are always fighting at the clubs! Hmm I'm not sure you actually have to be that smart to be in the Navy, as I've met a lot of stupid Navy guys... so that's news too me!

thats funny because its somewhat true....i have met some marines who have said that if youre going to join the military, then go marines otherwise its a waste of time...i have heard alot of slamming about the coast guard lately...alot of people think coast guard is the easiest branch and anyone can do it...

well, let me tell them differently..my husband was in the navy for 8 years and had to get out...then he went coast guard...he has deployed for months and months at a time to foreign countries and even to Iraq...so the coast guards job can be just as difficult and or dangerous than any other branch...

i think alot of the issues are delaing with loyalty to that persons service...sailors think they are the best, airmen think they are better and it goes on for days...

sure maybe the job you lead in one branch is the hardest rate there is....my husband was a submariner, i give him credit for doing that job but then there might be an army ranger who thinks that they are better...i dont know...yeah, someones job maybe be harder but each branch is doing the same thing, they are defending/ helping our country...

If you don't think you are in the best one, then you joined the wrong one.
I was what was commenlly called a "Bluesuiter" in Vietnam, and believe me the only difference between a Bluesuiter and the Army was that my stripes were up side down.

I don't have a clue but its actually true. They don't even talk to each other because they always have to proof the other group or branch is better than the other one..but they are all on the same team. Its insane thinking but its probably taught as well by the military.
