The biggest problem is that if/when blood relatives have a child together, the baby has a high probability for genetic disorders/diseases. That is a scientific fact. The other problem is the social dilema. People are mean and judgemental. Not only will you need to deal with that, but you then subject your family to the same ridicule. Not to mention, that if you and your cousin/blood relative have a fight or break up, you are putting your family at odds with each other. In my opinion for these reasons, it's not a good idea. But I do also feel that you only have one true love in your life and if you find it with kin, then you need to accept that for what it is.

Nowadays it's illegal in many states for cousins to marry and it's socially frowned upon. But up until the late 19th century it was legal and not all that rare. Of course, people didn't move around as much then and often lived in small rural villages, so practically everybody you'd meet on a day-to-day basis was related at least a little to everybody else.

As far as biology goes, some genetic diseases are more likely to be passed on to your kids in that kind of relationship, which is not good.

The bottom line is it's probably not all that weird to be attracted to your cousin, but you can't date without getting into alot of trouble with society, at least in the US and the UK.

If I can remember correctly, I believe that first cousin's (blood relatives) getting married is illegal because of the birth defects that can be caused by them having children. Second, why would you want to? I'm sure your family would be against it, and society would definitely look down on it. Plus if it did go far enough for you guys to have sex, then there is a chance of you guys accidentally getting pregnant (no form of birth control is 100% fool proof except abstinence) and there are great chances of a baby having birth defects when the child's parents are closely related.

First cousins as in:

The natural offspring of one of the natural siblings of one of your natural parents.....

Genetically, the odds that any birth defects would occur because of this are less than 1 in 10,000

Legally, however, I'm not aware of any state which would not consider this incest (in the US, that is)...

Up until the civil war, marrying your first cousin was perfectly acceptable in most areas of the United States.

There are some states that would issue a marriage license without inquiring into the matter, and therefore, you could become legally married. Any legal charge of incest could only be brought about by one of the two parties in the marriage, and it could be used as grounds for divorce, or anulment.

Um Yeah.....they are first cousins. It's just wrong. Can't they find anyone else? What if they get married? There may be problems with the children they have. How does the rest of the family view their relationship. They probably don't approve either. Certain states it may be more acceptable than others though. It just seems very strange to me.

Marrying a first cousin is illegal in most states for a reason: gene pooling.

If the two of you end up having children, there is a greatly increased chance of any bad things that run in your extended family to come to surface. But it works the other way too...good traits will pop up more often also.

So you may end up with a beautiful, blue-eyed, blond-haired highly intelligent baby, who a rare condition that will kill them before the age of five. Makes the loss even harder.

It's not within the list of relatives prohibited by Leviticus 19, but it could cause society (possibly including family) to ostracize you. Besides, if the dating led to marriage, only certain states would allow that.

Yeah, its called incest. It's not incest once you reach your fifth cousin, because under law you can marry your fith cousin, due to the fact there isn't the same amount of dna in their system as their is your's. If you date your first cousin and have sex with them, its a big possibility that your babies can be retarded.

My 1st cousin and I dated for years and were best friends.
We went out at least twice a month to hamburger joints to opera's .
We had a special love for each other but there was never any sexual behavior between us, odd as that may seem. We discussed it as to why we did not have sexual attachment toward each other and we both felt it would destroy our bond if we did. We were just best friends who were related.
