Whatever. I'm not sure how this is hurting you, but I'm not going to get into that.
You want to be an unhappy, unloving, ugly person at this time of year, then go for it.
Social duty? My social duty is to tell you to mind your own darned business and leave people alone who aren't hurting you (or the environment). Merry CHRISTmas.

The bottom line up front - you are an unhappy @sshole, and it's not the holiday decorators' fault. The people that have the decorations, no matter how tacky, aren't pushing their views on you, you are pushing your PERSONAL, ABSURD view(s) on them. You are obviously using this avenue as an excuse to project your feelings about something else. If you don't like the decorations - look away.

Who made you the judge and jury? What you perceive as TACKY kids might just love. It's no ones "social duty" to berate other people.

some people love the religous, cheery feel of christmas and some feel that it is time for giving and for being with family, however, it appears that this is a time for you to grab attention using your outlandish attitude about this wondreful holiday that the rest of us love. I recently went to a christmas party for 170 inner-city children and if you could have seen the smiles on their faces as Santa came and gave them presents, you would be putting lights all over your house.
