when is it coming out? Where should I get it? Will my old files
transfer over? My main need is powerpoint for slideshow-dissolves-presentations. Is 2003 OK to get?? Am I buying an upgrade or the full version?

I've done a lot of beta testing for Office 2007. They're using a whole different file structure. It can handle older Office files fine, but older Office programs can't read 2007 (Is Microsoft trying to force us to all buy 2007 to stay compatible?) It's a memory/processor hog. The user interface is completely redone and, after months of using it, I'm still totally unfamiliar with it. There have been hundreds of bugs that will probably take years to work out. Personally, I wouldn't use 2007 until I'm forced to. Upgrading to 2003 would give you a huge boost in capabilities over 97 without all the drawbacks of 2007.

If you are still on Office 97, you might as well wait for Office 2007. Most people upgraded to Office 2003 (or Office XP) and the changes from 2003 to 2007 really aren't anything to be excited over. However, there are enough enhancements over '97 that you should go ahead and make the jump when the time comes.

Good luck!

I think you should get the MS 2003, 'cause the 2007 is not being sale yet, that's what MS says, and we've to wait to see how efficient it's going to be, plus, MS office 2003 works pretty well, I work with it almost every day, so I strongly recommend it to you. The files are compatible also.
