Yes. That is why we have the U.S. Army Rangers, Special Forces (Green Berets), and Delta Force. That is their job to do such out-smarting.

I hate to use The History Channel as a resource since I've seen them lie like a dog, but, this morning I believe it was, they were showing a program about WWII, I believe it was, where the Germans beat back a Russian assault when the odds were 14 to 1 in favor of the Russians. The program was on small firearms. Maybe that was The Military Channel, but they're both the same. I'm sure that's not the only occasion, and I don't think it necessarily has always been superiorily trained troops as Morv says. It's just soldiers who have the superior determination, or the superior weaponry, or the superior luck, but it has and will continue to happen. God Bless you.

Yes it could be done and has been done. It would require a lot of intel, superior fire power, stealth, surprise and timing not to mention a good insertion and exit strategy. Of course I have done it all the time virtually playing "Operation Flashpoint" on my PC!

But, a friend of mine said he did it in vietnam. He was a seal and one of his fellow seal team members was caught and being interogated. The squad went back and took out the entire company and got back the hostage with no casualties. The Green Faces did it! He also told me that they put a 55 gallon drum in the middle of camp pendleton from an insertion from a submarine without ever being spotted! Other than the sentry they tied up and wasn't found for a day or two.

But, heck all you need these days is a forward air controler and/or a laser designator! That ought to do it!

Not only now, but at the batte of Thermopylae (around 480 BC)300 Spartans and 700 Thespians fought a Persian army of around 150,000 to 300,000. While they lost, the casualties were so massive that the Persian Army was easily destroyed by the Athenians at a later battle.

Sure. Check out the exploits of SGT Alvin York in World War I. I don't remember the details but he captured lots of German soldiers almost single handedly.

In the American Civil War Confederate General Nathan Forrest captured a much larger Union force (probably 4x his own force) by making them think his force was larger.

The conventional wisdom in the Cold War years was that an army on the defense could withstand an attack of a force as much as 3x their size or more (against Soviet tactics).

The final battle of the war of 1812 in New Orleans where Andrew Jackson's troops won in one of the most lopsided battles in history says that its very possible. Over 2,000 British died, about 50 Americans. You do the math.

That is not only in the movies, quite often in WWII, and Korea, we were out numbered 2-1, but still won the battles.

Anything is possible. But if you are betting money - bet on the company of 100.

Sure look at Iraq. Our enemy spends one dollar for every million that we spend and it looks as though they have the upper hand.

this is possible, if the 10 soldiers are highly trained. (maybe marines or CIA or something like that)
