How do you say to stop in spanish...I keep getting this wierd thing that I've never heard of before. I'm a spanish II student and I have no clue!!

If you are referring to the STOP sign.. then is ALTO. Another way to refer to stop is pare or detengase.

The word for stop is "parar".
Interestingly, parar can also mean to end up
somewhere.
Such as the following lines from a song:
Adios mamacita
Adios mi chaparrita
Que a la carcel
Yo pararé.

Since Stop! is an affirmative command we use the verb meaning stop and conjugate it into its third person singular form.
The verb being parar,
and we conjugate it to PARA

to stop = parar

but if you want to say it to somebody you should say "PARA"
