If the dog will let you, get a Q-tip or some gauze wet with hydrogen peroxide and rub/drip it onto the abscess and surrounding gum tissue. Repeat 3-4x a day. This will help clean out the infection until you can get the dog into the vet and it shouldn't hurt the dog any to lick/drink the small amount you would be putting in his/her mouth. Good luck!

i had this and my dentist prescribed amoxycillin for me which worked a treat! you can get similar penicillin products from the pharmacy if you explain what is wrong but i really do suggest amoxycillin because it is the only thing that really touched the pain. codydramol also worked but that was because it made me very tired and i would just pass out lol not advisable! go to the dentist asap and they will sort you out pronto! after taking the first pill, the pain was gone in minutes! it was the first time in weeks i hadnt had any pain! seriously, get this sorted because abcesses can be serious, my uncle had to have his throat cut open on one side because his abcess moved down into his throat and he was actually choking on it!

You can try to express the fluid by applying light pressure and apply warm compresses to the area, but there really is not much that can be done, he just needs to go to the vet.
