My husbands job is telling him that they have to provide insurance papers from another cokmany or they will have to use their insurance. Also they said that the insurance comany that they have decides if the coverage is good enough for you or not. This is for Health Insurance. Is this Legal?

The insurance company that they have chosen wants 1500 a month. I think they just want the money. I went through the same company without the group rate and got insurance for 325 a month.

It depends.
If your husband is a union member and the union negotiates an insurance plan as part of its collective bargaining agreement, then you have no choice.....not only do you have to take the insurance....you have to pay for it whether or not you use it.
There's a special federal law that requires this.
However, if he does not work for a union then there are other scenarios at play.
Normally in a private business not covered by a union...you can't be forced to take an employer's insurance...if you are offered coverage on your own.
Several states, including Massachusetts and soon California are about to embark on a system where employees are required to have insurance coverage....if you don't have it from somewhere else....you will have to get it from your employer or on your own.
This forced coverage is certainly going to limit options.

To my knowledge no company can force a particular type of insurance, or insurance company on an employee.

There has been a move to require companies to provide health insurance however.

It is possible that in your state, law has been passed requiring everyone to carry health insurance, but I'm not aware of passage of any such law.

Regardless, I do not think that this is legal on the part of the company.

I smell a rat. If it is legal it shouldn't be.
