Beleive me, if you smoke, and your parents don't, there's no way they won't know. I'm in my 40's and even if its an hour since I had a cig, when I visit my parents, my Dad complains about the smell! It not just your breath, so mints won't help. Its your clothes, your hair, your car, everything.

I started when I was 16, but didn't tell mine until I was 18. I figured what could they do then? It was easy to hide. I did my own laundry, and my father smoked 3 packs a day, so it was easy to hide the smell of my smoke. Normally I would say, tell them. You are 17 though, just wait another year. You would be an adult then. Worse they could say is, no smoking in the house. Unless you're guilt is getting to you, just come out and say it then.

Of course your parents know about your sister smoking. At your age you should know that adults are not easily to full, maybe they just don't want to face the truth you know? it is hurtful for a parent to see their only child doing something harmful for their own health..I am a smoker and my mom knew all the time, I was the one that finally had to give up the lies. And I still cant smoke in front of them, not because they have something against, but it is disrespectful!! it is like now they are your friends that you pushed to accept your habit and not the ones that made you, they toked care of you when you were sick..grow some respect would you?

I started smoking when I was 10, my parents knew because their cigarettes started turing up missing. I was always allowed to smoke at home, because everyone in the family smoked. I quit almost 22 years ago though.

I started in the Marine Corps. They didn't know it until I got back from Vietnam. Wasn't too much they could say when saw me at airport smoking while waiting for them to pick me up.

I never really told my parents. They noticed the pack sitting in my car. They don't care. I smoke around my dad but not my mom even thought she is a smoker herself. If your an adult they can't do anything.
