why not scrape or cut some fibers from around the room edge where the carpet tucks under/into baseboard and lightly glue or hot glue them into the burn.. might want to scrape some of the charred fibers out of the burn first

Cut out the burned area, making a hole as small as possible. Then take a piece of the carpet from an inconspicuous area, like under a sofa, or in a corner, and make it the same size as the hole. Add a little contact cement to the back and place in the open hole. A quick brush and you won't be able to tell the difference.
This works better on carpets with a high pile, so it blends together better.

A strategically placed rug or piece of furniture, do not do what my friends just did and take a big bit of carpet out with a stanley knife and replace it with a new bit, because even if you do manage to get the pattern matched up perfectly you can still see the line and the difference in colour in the carpet.

get some scissors, and snip off a piece of carpet say from a closet or somewhere where it wont be seen, and after you cut away the burnt spot, glue the carpet in its place. Its not a perfect solution, but it will look better than the burn.

Some physical exercises that involve you being on the floor can cause carpet burn. Very rare.

Move furniture or a rug over it. It is quite nice to move stuff around - it makes the room look new and different without having to spend £500 at Ikea.

Cut a plug from an unused area (closet, corner) and glue it into the hole. The nap has to be matched--the fibers must be going in the same direction..
