Yes. When a plant doesn't get enough oxygen for aerobic respiration, the roots ferment pyruvate to lactate. This can lead to fermentation to ethanol. This is a very minimal explanation.

I worked in Sierra Leone (West Africa) in the 1970's. They tapped palm trees daily for "palm wine". It is a fairly potent alcoholic beverage that was fresh from the trees. In fact you must drink it fresh because by the next day it will already be turning to vinegar. This is the only case I ever saw where an alcoholic beverage came straight from nature that didn't require any fermentation.

Fermentation is caused by yeast a nongreen plant. When fuit spolis fermentation occurs in the fruit. Cows eating rotten apples can get drunk.

There's a flower in Australia that holds water when it rains. It mixes with the nectar and ferments. The birds drink from it and fly crooked. It's hilarious to watch.
