That is fine because your alternator is what provides them with most of the power. The battery is just to prevent it from draining other accessories. You may need to see if your alternator can handle cranking out that much power.

Assuming that's watts RMS...Josh214...

To calculate the current draw of two amplifiers, add the total watts RMS of both amps. Double it to account for amplifier inefficiency (2000 watts X 2 = 4000 watts), then divide by the average output Voltage of an alternator, 13.8 volts (4000 divided by 13.8 = 290 amps). Since the average music signal requires about 1/3rd of the average power in a test tone, divide by 3 (290 amps divided by 3 = 96.6 amps).

The result is the amplifier's approximate average current draw and can go higher depending on demand. So between 97 and 145 amps would be the answer.

The alternator of a:

compact car is about 35 amps
mid-sized car is about 65-75 amps
SUV is about 145 amps

Calculate 40% of the amperes of the alternator you have now. This is the average current the car uses when running. Add this number to the approximate average current draw of the amps, and you will come up with the actual size of alternator you need.

You will need to upgrade the alternator to at least 135 amperes by my calculations and a deep cycle battery in place of the stock battery. A second battery or capacitor is only a band-aid to a problem that will come back, this would be replacing your stock alternator every six months and battery every 3 months.

That pretty much depends on how many amps your alternator will put out to supply the current needed.

Let's see ;
1400watts at 12 volts requires 116.66 amps. That's a lot.
600 watts at 12 volts requires 50.00 amps. Thats still quite a bit.

You might need a capacitor..which is a 'reservoir' for electricity when the bass hits your lights will dim. i had a '89 oldsmobile with a 444 watt and a 1200 watt amp hooked up, and it would dim my lights.. especially if i had my heater going full tilt.

not really a good idea for the life of the battery and it won't suppy enough power to both it is better to get a second battery to supply enough power to max the power of the sub you might get by but not for long so just think about it and contact a local stero place they will guide youin the right direction hope that i helped the problem good luck and merry christmas
