Ever hear the expression "right makes might"?

The phrase by Abraham Lincoln's words in his February 27, 1860, Cooper Union Address: "Let us have faith that right makes might, and in that faith, let us, to the end, dare to do our duty as we understand it."

Since every religion thinks they are "right", they think they also have the might (and "duty") to defeat an enemy.... so they start wars.

Want to reduce the number of wars? Eliminate religion.

Since when does EVERY religion start wars? You are generalizing WAY too much here! Your solution to all wars is to just throw religion out the window and have everybody become atheists. What one of these crazy religions is actually right? What if something is actually worth dying for? I'm not saying you should go start a war for your church, I'm just "protesting" this stereotype of all religions. Atheists and others get stuck in this idea that every faith is the same therefore EVERY single one should be eliminated.

Don't you mean "might makes right?"

I think that if you look at the wars throughout history, on the surface it can look like religion is the culprit... but deeper analysis is likely to reveal a greedy, power hungry leader manipulating the masses to fight a war under religious pretenses.

Just look at the war in Iraq now. We are there to control the flow of oil, but Bush says that he was told by god to bring freedom to the middle east. Osama bin Laden wants to control the flow of oil and he is bastardizing Islam to get the faithful to fight the battle for him.

It is now as it has always been. There's nothing new under the sun.

Want to eliminate the number of wars eliminate everything. Do you think the street wars with the gangs in LA or NYC have anything to do with religion?

War existed unfortunately before religion, so the premise is misleading. War is a part of human nature from the beginning. Religion has only tempered its ravages.

Eliminating religion wont stop wars, it'll just force people to find another scape goat to blame their wars on.
