Just had my dog microchipped and he's been sick since...is this just a coincidence? Also.. Is it possible for the chip to come 'out'? I found something in his bed that looked suspiciously like one.

It shouldn't make him sick, and if properly inserted it should not come out. Did your vet microchip him? If they did, I would save what you found in the dogs bed and just stop by the vet clinic and ask them to look at it. If it did come out, they should implant another one at no charge. Sometimes microchips can cause pain and inflammation at the implantation site, and can sometimes cause the dog to act a little lethargic (especially if it is a small dog).

Microchipping will not make your dog sick, there are no drugs or chemicals used at all, it's just a passive computer chip. There is nothing at all to enter his bloodstream and cause illness. It's highly unlikely that it came out. They've been known to migrate under the skin sometimes, but not 'fall out'. What exactly did you find? A microchip looks sort of like a grain of rice with the chip inside of it, like this: http://www.chippet.com/images/bigchip.jpg
If that's not what you found, then it's still safely in your dog. You can always take the dog and/or the item to the vet and find out, if your vet scans your dog and gets a reading, the chip is still in.

He might have just picked up something while he was at the vet - since they do see a lot of sick animals in a day. Chips are the size of a grain of rice and shouldn't be noticeable.

I've never heard of a chip coming out, but if you are concerned you can always get your dog scanned to see if he still has his. Also, consult a vet to find out the cause behind your dog feeling under the weather.

Just like us when we go to the doctor there are sick people there and we catch it. The same true with your dog....He must of caught a cold from a sick pet someone brought in earlier.
