Do the code reader thing, it may be injectors going bad. Try running some diesel injector cleaner through.

change the fuel filter and air filter out. also you should get your fuel from truckstops. I have found I get better mileage doing that.
I try to get from the same stations. Also use a good fuel conditioner. It will help. Have you kept up on the oil changes? this is a must with diesel engines. I prefer Rotella T oil for mine.
You can also add a after market air filter like K&N systems rather cheap and they boost mileage and horsepower. and just so you know. I use my truck year round and plow snow with it as well. Use a 8' Boss super duty plow.

17mpg is pretty good for a 7.3l diesel.

i get about 15-16 WITH a superchip

Injectors clogged? You can check to see if the glow plugs are working. Check each one with a test light. Hook the light between the positive battery post and touch to the glow plug connector. I would think that a computer code would pop up??

take it to a shop that knows computer settings something might have happened if your the guy that said you were getting 11 now,talk to them about an up grade on the chip
