When I was a kid, all the large salt shaker refills, had both the current metal spout for pouring, and a plastic shaker spout. This way the salt shaker refill container, could also be used as a salt shaker. It has been at least 2 decades since I have seen the plastic shaker spout on any of these refill containers. Does anybody know why they were removed?

I know what you are talking about, but don't really know why they quite putting it on the tops of the salt boxes. I used it all the time even now my kids will see me barely open the spout to sprinkle salt on food and shake their heads. I would guess it wasn't cost effective or no longer used by the consumer. But these are only a guess. Thank you for the memory.

This is a good question - one I don't have the answer to. I had forgotten about the shaker tab, after all these years!
