You know what I mean. At a restaurant or when you buy ice it is very clear and has no taste and I just like it better (especially in a nice mixed drink), but the refrigerator freezer always makes that white, cloudy ice and its just not as satisfying. Is this a water quality issue, or could a home icemaker make this ice?

Fill your ice trays with fairly hot water (the cloudiness is dissolved gases...if you use hot water then the dissolved gases will have been forced out) and you will have 'clear' ice cubes when you're done!

the bubbles most likely come from dissolved gases in
the water. So, you've got to get rid of them. They do add
taste.

Try an experiment. Boil some water in a pot for a few minutes and let it cool
without stirring. Taste it. Does it taste kind of bland to you.
This is degased water (not much air in it). Use this
water to make some ice.

Now, as for degasing the water supply to your icemaker...

um, hmmm... this is slightly tough. get mineral-less water. All water has some mineral. Sometimes even bottle water has some type of mineral. Anyways, the reason you get the white cloudy air bubbles in your ice cubes is because minerals tend to come closer when being frozen, they create air bubbles and yeah.... how do you make the clear ice. well if you make a big ice cube, you can get the clear parts of it (the surrounding area around the white air bubbles).

If you have an automatic ice maker in the freezer, try changing the filter every 6 months or as directed on your manual.

Watch Going Deep with David Rees-How to make an ice cube
You need to make giant blocks and then cut the edges which are clear and then you can "sand them".

let the water run for a bit before you fill the trays, the air bubbles should be gone and your ice clear.

Buy a Brita water filter, and use that water to fill the trays.

Filter the water. When you take out impurities, you leave it clear and virtually tasteless.
