I can not have a pitt, dobi, rotti or germ. shep. they are our only breed restrictions.....I was looking for a SMALL dog like a jack russ. yorki, something under or around 10 LBS easy to transport.....I also have 3 small kids i need to think about too....a large dog would not do well here with us.

My kids are 4, 2, and 8 months......my older two have been around dogs, cats, chickens, (chicks) sheep and 1200Lb horses so i am not too woried about getting a smaller dog.

Well You could always try on craigslist! Its where I got my purebred Shih-Tzu, (not a puppy) she is absolutely the second love of my life, behind my own human child lol. And best of all she was absolutely F R E E...yup FREE! Just becareful as people will always try to take advantage of you! Put up a small dog wanted add, like I did and wait....and wait...it took me a few months but In the end I got exactly what I wanted!! Good Luck!! and Thanks for adopting!

That's about as cheap as your going to get. You can look in your local paper to see if there are any free to good home...but be VERY careful...there is usually a good reason why people are willing to get rid of their dogs free...poorly behaved, aggressive, etc. The fees on petfinder are fairly reasonable when you consider the cost that actually goes into caring for puppies/dogs before they are adopted out. If the money is an issue, you may be better off waiting until a better time. Puppies/dogs can get expensive with food, toys, proper vet care, etc.

I would loook in your local papers and go to your local pet stores and vet offices or even a groomer and place up index cards saying you are looking for a tiny dog and what you can afford to buy one. You can also place a ad in your local papers that would help. Good Luck!
