What is the highest in numers a motor can go on treadmill?

I am going to buy one but i noticed a lot of them say like 2.25 HP MOTOR. What does that mean? And what is a good number to buy?

The ones i use go up to about 12 or 14 miles per hour, but i don't know what the HP rating is on them.
