Today at lunch I ordered a Blue Moon beer on draught. When the server brought it to my table, I noticed an orange wedge on the rim of the glass. I thought it was odd (I know wheat beers are often served with lemon wedges). Even though it added a pleasant taste... I wonder what's the purpose of adding citrus to a wheat beer and why did Blue Moon come with an orange instead of a lemon? thanks :)

Since it was lunch it may just be a breath chaser for the working folks who dont want to come back smelling of the juice!

I actually like the orange in my wheat beer better than lemon. Lemons are for Corona. I enjoy the orange in my favorite Hefeweisen - Bell's Oberon! And it's less acidic - nothing like heartburn when drinking!

Heiffeweizen beers are typically served with either a lemon or orange. I think it takes the heaviness of the beer away.

To be different. If you're a tourist in Ireland and stop by the Guiness brewery they'll stick a shamrock in it...

Not as tasty though.

It is simply to add to the flavor, but it does make an attractive garnish!
