Ok I found It in a dumpster, but it wasn't IN the dumpster, it was next to it. So I brought it home, and when I plug it in it makes an obnoxious squeaking noise similar to when you let out air from a balloon. And when I press the power button it does nothing.

Does it sound fixable?

Now that you took it from a dumpster, you'll have to find a way to get rid of it. Normally, TVs don't get dumped into landfill, due to the toxic metals. The refuse transfer station near my house charges $40 to get rid of a TV. Maybe compare that to the fine for illegal dumping, and make your choice.

Sounds like a problem in the High Voltage Supply or the main power supply.

If you're asking about it, I'd have to guess that you don't know enough about electronics or the safety of handling Hight Voltage Power Supplies, and I'd advise you to Not try fixing it. One mistake when poking around inside a TV can kill you.

Well maybe the reason it was by the dumpster is because it is BROKEN. lol I am sure the original owners have tried to fix it before it is hopeless.

Ask a TV repair man. How much are you willing to invest in it? Sometimes you do find treasure in odd places I have to admit. These other responders are pretty harsh...but may have a point. But...find out before you re-trash it if you can get it fixed for a few bucks. Who knows?

With the cost of televisions being lower now, the price you'd have to pay to repair one isn't really worth it anymore...Besides, I don't know how it is in most towns, but around here, all but one tv repair shop has closed.

Could be. if it's a flat screen, no harm in carefully disassembling it and looking for a physical problem.
