I don't, I think we should all think for ourselves.

I agree with Selar in that the hospital may be trying to avoid lawsuits in case your religion forbids certain treatments. And to answer the following:
Q: Why does it have to be 'your either religious or your atheist'.
A: It doesn't. Those two types of beliefs are at two opposite sides, but belief systems actually come in a spectrum of varieties. People can be religious, irreligious or non-religious or agnostic, or against all religions or believe all religions are false. Atheism means you believe there are no gods, but maybe you don't know or you simply don't care, any of which can be true. Whether they are aware of it or not, many people in the world are actually non-religious or only mildly religious, because they do not take all the teachings too seriously, even though they may claim to belong to one religion. I hope that society will become more understanding and tolerant of people who are simply irreligious.
BTW, check out all these countries where most people are NOT religious or barely religious: China, Netherlands, Czech Republic, Japan, etc. You're not alone.

You should have asked the person why she asked that question, you did not confront it and you are still battling from within. It is really hard to answer this question because i just cannot know what she was thinking. She could have asked for reasons of culture sensitivity, some patients prefer that women take x rays if they are women of a particular religion. This is just my wild guess.

I know they ask that question to respect people's beliefs since different religions have different opinoins about medical care. I don't think it's necessarily a way to make you feel like you HAVE to belong to a religion because I don't for the same reason, I haven't figured all that out. That's why you don't have to answer, it's truly none of their business and I truly believe it's only because of the religious rules about medicine.

they ask you that to be considerate. Many relgions have strict religious policies regarding medical treatment. Example Catholics - last rites, communion, being visited by a priest. Jehovahs witnesses-no blood products. It is simply to help the patients needs. They are not taking a censor. If you have no religion why not tell them that? Are you to ashamed to admit you believe in nothing? You believe in nothing, so you should be proud of that...hmmm or are you ashamed of yourself?

I once told a doctor I was Satanic. I got kicked out the room and sent to another doctor.
I'm actually Pagan, but I don't believe in modern medicine.

that would have pissed me off, you shouldn't have to answer a question like that, why does it matter to them??
I guess it's easier on people if you belong to a religion so they can label you this or that. (not really speaking of the hospital but in society)
you dont have to belong to any religion, believe what you want, and its no ones business what it is that you believe

Ostensibly the reason a hospital would ask is that, should your condition deteriorate, they could page a priest or whatnot. Also, some religions have dietary constraints. I would have worded that, "Do you have any religious considerations we need to know about?" however.

i don't know i guess people feel that you're a weirdo freak or something if you don't have a religion or whatnot as for myself i'm agnostic and i am not sure if god exists or doesn't as i don't have enough evidence to prove either way that sounds like what you might be if you feel the same way that i do then you're agnostic and agnosticism might be the way for you to go

I agree with you. I'm Catholic however I don't feel there is any good reason that I should be asked my religion on a questionnaire etc. Your beliefs and spirituality is a personal thing!

That is how I am, I don't really have a religion! I just have my beliefs and stick with them! But to answer your question, since most people have a religion, they expect that you do, too! And, if you don't, they say that you are athiest!!! Which pisses me off!!!
