They just enjoy being greedy and getting presents - probably the only reason they call themselves Christian is so they can get gifts on Christmas.
Once in third grade around Christmas time, a girl in my class was saying how I didn't know anything about religion because I was homeschooled in CCD (sort of like Sunday School.) She thought Jesus was born in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania and that there are three Gods. And she celebrates Christmas.

Everybody likes presents. It's glitsy and glamorous. A bright spot in the middle of a dark season. And of course people are encouraged through advertising, peer pressure, etc, to buy the things that make Christmas so glitsy.
Christmas is not and never was a true Christian celebration. Jesus wasn't born on December 25th. (I think many or even most people realise that) Christmas is taken from the ancient Satrunalia, a celebration of the unconquered sun. They've just spelled "sun" a different way and applied it to the Son of God.

It is most likely a habit - it is Christmas so must go to church. My son used to have a poster which said 'go to Church this Sunday and beat the Christmas rush' - which says it all really.
I shall be in church on Christmas day but then I am a Christian and am there every Sunday - God willling!
Please don't use the word xmas - some people consider x to be an unknown quantity and Christ is known to millions of people.

Because Christmas has nothing to do with the Bible - or Jesus.
God, however is another story. Christmas was fashioned after the Pagan celebration of the winter solstice, and that has everything to do with God.
God was born of the Goddess on winter solstice, and is reborn of her again every year on that day. We have celebrated this for centuries longer than Christians have been around.
Christians copied our holidays, our celebratory traditions, even our religious symbols, and for so long have been trying to convince the world that it rightfully belongs to them. Unfortunately, the masses believe them, and have for a very long time. Likely because they did their damnedest to rid the world of us tree-huggers, and pretty much anyone who opposed us was saved from certain discrimination and death. Thus, everyone who believed we were evil, and everything the Christians ripped off from us was actually Christian in origin, were mostly all that was left.
Effective, but morbid. For shame.

Define 'celebrate xmas'. I take time off, buy presents, visit friends, and put up lights - but I don't believe in god/jesus/whatever or go to church.
I like having time off. And as an astronomer, I suppose I'm mourning the end of the longest nights of the year.

how many questions like this have there been this month? I celebrate christmas as a time to be with my family, jesus and god don;t enter into it for me. For alot of my family members it does and I have enough respect and love for them to shut my mouth and be quiet while they pray and celebrate their way. Give up family time just because they believe something I don;t? That would be pretty stupid wouldn;t it?
We get together all the time throughout the year...duh! Jesus is a non existent character in a fairytale to me, so just because other family members choose to believe it does not mean I can;t hang out with them while they do...duh.

because deep down we are all pagans, christ wasnt even born at xmas and a lot of people argue if it was in sept. or april. The xmas tree is actually a pagan belief when people used to decorate trees outside coz of the coming spring would allow them to plant and have food again. They didnt worship christ but the seasons and the nourishment we could get from mother earth. There is a power greater than us but there is no god as such. We are looked after by our mother earth.

People don't go to church on Sunday because it is a waste of valuable hours. People celebrate x-mas because it's free gifts..duh.
Also, christmas is just a rip off of the pagan holiday Yule and pre-existing celebrations of the winter solstice, which was celebrated by druids and still celebrated to this day in many countries outside the US.

Who says that were "celebrating" anything??
I personally, think the whole exercise is a waste of time. I dont buy into any of it, I give and receive presents, but not as a form of celebration, but as an excuse to have a nice time with my girlfriend.
Get off your religious high horse.
Great retort nitwit, is it the best you could come up with?
We all HAVE to "celebrate" on that particular day as everything shuts and we dont have to go to work...duh

this question comes up a lot. christmas isnt about christ anymore, and it never started out that way. christmas is derived from pagan holliday, look up Yule and Saturnalia
december 25th - the date they believed to be the winter solstice, the shortest day of the year. celebrated for their god whos name meant the "unconquered sun", celebrated this day as it was the day he proved himself "unconquered"
december 25th - any biblical scholar will tell you christ wasnt born in december, or even january, most believe he was born in september.
traditions - the tree was the pagan symbol for renewed life, gift giving, hanging holly and mistletoe, and even eating ham derived from pagan traditions.
many people believe that this much was taken from pagans to make converting pagans to christians easier, by keeping their traditions alive. *shrug*
so the real question becomes, why do you celebrate it when its mixed with such pagan traditions? does the bible not say not to yoke yourself with non-believers? wouldnt that mean not to mix your religious traditions with others?
if u want more information u can search up, Yule, Saturnalia, Constantine, Solis Invicti
