Pastor Billy says:
first off the bible doesn't say a thing it has no mouth and no vocal cords. Men say things you have created a false dichotomy. What you really mean to say is
"If the Pope said one thing and my pastor says something else, which would you believe?
or
If the Pope said one thing and my tradition of biblical interpretation leads me to say something else, which would you believe?
you really should be more accurate in your presenting of truth.
Let me ask this
If the apostle Paul appeared to you and corrected you on your bible understanding would you
a) believe him because he is of a higher authority
b) reject him and cling to your own understanding, even while reading one of Paul's own letters
c) become a non-believer
Lets return to your original question and assume you actually have a case of contradiction, please present your example what did any Pope say when instructing others that is not according to scriptural understanding?

This is to yummygoodie do you also remember the Bible is written by men? They made errors but the message of salvation is clear. If the Pope says hey maybe we won't stone people anymore I think thats a good thing. Also if you could see the Pope is usually very in touch with God. He would not make a decision on anything unless he found it a must. He could be a wack job but then we'll get a better Pope sooner or later. Also I don't see how this Pope did anything wrong other than quote a Bzyantine emperor.......

This is based on the assumption that the Pope is always infallible. He isn't. The Pope's statements are only considered by Catholics to be infallible when he speaks "ex cathedra" or "from the chair" (of Peter, the first Pope). The Pope rarely exercises this practice in the modern day.
Besides that, many mainline Catholics are much less insistent upon the flawlessness and perfection of every single word in the Bible as are, for example, many Protestants, who say that every word in the book is the inspired and inerrant word of God.

The bible is a book of mythology, so definitely not that. As for the pope, it would depend on what he said...he could be correct, but he might not be...however, since the "thing" being said would probably have to do with religion, chances are it would not be believable (for a non-religious person anyway).

i would tend to believe the pope because reading any one of the bibles available to the public confuse the hell out of me because, i guess, they tend to put me to sleep. this ancient talk and i didn't pass a test on middle english back in college. i am easily confused with much of the bible. i need a guide to help. i would think the pope understands far better than you or myself. why would he lie to me? are you calling the pope a liar? who are you to call the pope a liar? may god smite the up side yo head heathen!

It depends on the topic.
The Bible says slavery is okay. The Pope says slavery is against the will of God.
The Bible says to stone adulterers to death. The Pope is against the death penalty unless there is no other way to protect society.
On these issues, I side with the Pope.
With love in Christ.

That is not possible since Jesus Christ, God in the flesh, immediately creating the position of Pope, and appointing the Apostle Simon to that position, told him "whatsoever you bind upon earth is bound in heaven". Therefore anything the Pope defines as binding teaching (not anything he happens to say) is in full accord with God's Word. Of course it may not be in full accord with someone's personal interpretation of God's Word, but that is not a problem for Catholics, since we don't live our lives based on anyone's personal interpretations. Which is why the Catholic Church has not fragmented into thousands of conflicting denominations.

If the pope truly made a statement that went against the true meaning of scripture, then he would certainly be mistaken.
And due to the 2000 year-old doctrinal structure of the Catholic Church, every good Catholic would be able to recognize it in a second.

I will not tell you i'm a catholic two. But I will tell you that the pope can not change Biblical teachings. Of course history shows the pope comes by it honest; he was in the Nazi machine that murdered Jews. So he has a vested interest to go against God's Holy Words.
The fact is, the pope can not change the Biblical text, unless he is the anti-Christ. That is in the bible, warnings about the beast in the book of Revelations..
