If you wiould like quiet beach setting you could go to Catalina, and sourounding islands. very nice, and cozy.

If you like wine there are A LOT of wineries in the Santa Barbara area. Such as Santa Ynez, and Solvang, about a couple hour drive. Much closer, but small area there is Malibu.

If you want more of a country/mountain/rustic setting there is Ojai, and Sequoia Nation Forest, and Yosemite all with in about a 4 hour drive. Those places are beautiful, quiet, extremely picturesque and you'll never foreget it.

I hope this helps.

1) Santa Barbara ( although the hotels arnt that nice)
2) The Bel Ari hotel in LA (very expensive)
3) the St. Regis in Monarch Beach (orange county)
4) the Del Coronado in San Diego (rooms are small and not that nice but the hotel is historic)
5) Bacra (beutiful grounds bad service not worth the $ but very picturesque)

Santa Barbara, or any of the little beach towns between LA and SD.

Another suggestion--my parents started at Big Trees up north and drove down highway 1 on their honeymoon many years ago. They ended at Disneyland, which they loved. I think my bf's parents may have actually done the same thing, sans Disney though.

San Diego, specifically La Jolla. There's a lot of great shopping, sightseeing, restaurants, people watching, beaches, cafes all in one little city...very romantic at night, too!
