Looks like you want more beachy waves than curly curls. as a stylist, i would use several curling irons, depending on hair length. if your hair is shoulder length or longer, use a 1 inch barrel iron, maybe 1 1/2 and a 2 inch. this makes the curl pattern look more natual and not contrived. Then section the hair and in small sections spray some very light styling spray or heat protectant and wrap the hair around the outside of the barrel, not clamping it in. Then leave for about count of 20 or 30. once you curl all the length of the hair. you can use some anti frizz or light wax (about size of a quarter) and rub between hands and through your curls to further sepreate and add shine. HTH!

You don't mention if you wanted spirals or just curls. Make sure your hair is clean and dry. Put in some kind of product in your hair like mousse, gel or heat activated curling spray, take a small section and wrap your hair around the iron. For spirals hold the iron at a 45 degree angle. Keep hair wrapped around the iron for about 15 sec, but if that doesn't take rewrap and hold for another 30 seconds, once you take it off the iron and the curl takes shape spray hair spray to maintain its curl. I prefer hot curlers than the curling iron only because it faster to make curls, you get less burns on your skin and your arms don't get tired from holding the iron.

Here's How:
1. I would highly recommend that you practice using the curling iron while it is cold. Handling is going to be awkward until you get a "feel" for the tool.
2. Use a thermal product to protect your hair from burning. Revlon Lisse Smoothing Balm will offer protection from the intense heat of the iron, but there are lots of thermal protecting products on the market.
3. Comb hair carefully so that there are no tangles. Hair should be as smooth as possible for the best results.
4. For short hair, you are obviously going to try to get as close to the scalp as possible. Be very careful that you don't touch the scalp with the iron. Lots of stylists position a comb between the scalp and the iron just to be safe.
5. For longer hair, using a curling iron is far easier. Practice however, is still important.
6. It is really important to curl small amounts of hair at a time. One of the biggest mistakes is trying to wrap too much hair around the barrel of the curling iron. This will result in the need to re-curl the section several times to get the amount of curl you want. This can lead to a lot of damage. With small amounts of hair, it should take about 5 seconds to curl the section.
7. Remove the curling iron from the curl and allow to cool without touching. This will allow the curl to set. Move on to the next section of hair.
8. Be aware of the ends of the hair. They need to be firmly held in place before closing the iron. What is referred to as fish hooks are the result if the ends are not secured.
9. When the curls have cooled, loosen with your fingers and spray with your favorite styling spray.

There are few methods to obtain long lasting curls:
You need to first switch to a curl enhancing shampoo and conditionner.
Then either you use a spray on each curl right after you use your curling iron or use a memory styler, which means once you spray your hair and style it, it will remember the style.

There are two ways to make your hair curly...i would suggest a curling iron oppose to rollers which will give you more of a childish country look. For looser curls in the link shown i would suggest either buying culers which are meant for looser curls (specified on box) Or after your finished curling hair brush it out to loosen the curls so they are not so tight
