I've pulled out the fireplace and enlarged the hole into an inglenook. Like it, and want to frame it with angled metal material, but want to make it look professional. Is there an idea out there to help?

Take some 2"x2" angle iron to a welding shop and have them weld together a mitered frame. Stay 1/4"x1/4" smaller than the opening size and caulk the area around the frame with caulk. The caulk is sold in hardware stores and is for mortar repair. Best of Luck.

Go to your local builders merchants and look at the stuff they have - ask them. Most are hospitable enough. Finish the uprights straight to the floor. The top corners should be mitres at 45 degrees on the wall face. B&Q also have a range of materials that might do.

You can fill the space with 1/2 inch( 15mm.) plywood, but before you do, make a frame around the edges to screw it to. I would suggest 2x1inch (50x25mm.) timber. drill holes insert wall plugs and screw timber to fireplace surround, then screw the plywood on. you need to leave a small air vent in the plywood to keep the chimney dry. Then you can paint or wallpaper over the plywood. Merry Xmas.
