The chemical in pressure treated wood is a chromium cupric arsenic (CCA) compound that binds to cellulose. So long as the cellulose structure is intact, the chemical isn't released until that fails (through digestion by termites or bacteria, or unless the wood is burned).

If the wood is fresh, then it should be rinsed off, so CCA solution isn't absorbed into the skin.

CCA treated wood is considered food safe. They used to test it by feeding the sawdust to animals. There was no harmful effects to any animal that couldn't digest wood.

Strychnine isn't in pressure treated wood. It would break down too quickly and would be dangerous to anyone contacting the wood. Especially mammalian life.

There are forms of pressure treated lumber, like creosote, that is a completely different animal. It should never be used around heat and/or food.

wood bent into a position and screwed or nailed into a position other than the shape of the freestanding peice of timber, would be dangerous if it was being removed or become unfastened because it would "twang" back into its original shape and hit you in the body or face, pressure treated wood is treated "factory" for a longer life or use of the wood.exoilfields answer is correct if a smokehouse is for food preparation or a sauna.anything that will cause a moisture or steam will make any residue on the wood come alive and drip off with the water droplets.

Pressure treated wood is regularly used in all types of construction. There is no danger in using it for a smoke house. Don't burn it though as it is bad for the atmosphere!
