I'm 5'8 and weigh 142. i went from a size 6 at 135 to a size 8 now. the weird part is i gained the weight after i decided to be healthier and started working out a lot (step aerobics 3 times a week, tae bo 2 times, and weight training about 2-3 times a week, specifically squats with 10 lbd bumbells and lunges, also, alot of abs excersize and i sometimes get on the elliptical but not much) i also cut off the junk food to which i was addicted and im generally eating healthier now, so why on earth did i gain weight and i mean inches as i stated above? its not that i look bad but its frustrating me that i gained weight when i started doing this and i dont want to quit what i started because it's fun and i really enjoy it. anyone can explain this pls.. thank.

Are you getting enough calories in your diet? If you're not, your body may be feeding off stored fat in replacement for the missing calories. Also, make sure you're eating enough throughout the day, don't go more than 4 hours without at least a snack or something. That's got to be frustrating to gain when you're working so hard - good luck.

This is great! You increased your muscle mass and muscle is heavier than fat. This increased muscle will also now keep your metabolic rate higher than it was. You may weigh more now but you are likely healtheier as well!
If any issues with the junk food come up again, start taking 500 mg of chromium picolinate (you can get it very inexpensively at vitacost.com) with your breakfast each day. Within a week it should make a difference for you.
Congratulations on your commitment to better health! It doesn't have to mean looking like Twiggy.

1) muscles weigh more than fat, period.
2) Increased muscle mass means increased size.
3) Your body shape changes as you age.
4) You are still eating too many calories for your level of activity.
Pick any or all of them. Congratulations on being healther, and being a size 8. You are at the right weight for your height. Check your BMI and have your fat measured with a body fold caliper. If you are within a normal range, stop obsessing and enjoy the new healthier you.

I think its because when u work out ur fat turns to muscle. And muscle weighs more than fat. Do you have abs? Because people with abs happen to have slightly larger stomachs.
