I am going with the Pope. Only because the current and various Popes of the past, are famous for being Catholic. I think more people know of Hitler, but if you haven't noticed, the fact that he was Catholic has kind of been swept under the proverbial rug.
If not for the History Channel I wouldn't even have known that he was Catholic.

Well, famous or infamous. I would say that the Pope is probably the most famous catholic. Hitler is famous, but he's infamous (famous for evil things). I also don't think that Hitler was a Catholic, I believe he was Jewish.

Although Adolph Hitler was raised in a Catholic family, he left the faith early in life. In fact he was excommunicated.

Automatic excommunication happens when Catholics commit certain offensives. This happens as soon as the offense is committed.

Adolf Hitler committed the following offenses resulting in automatic excommunication:
- Apostasy - the formal renunciation of one's religion. Hitler specifically rejected the Catholic Church, as well as Christianity in general. He described himself as "a complete pagan.”
- Heresy - a doctrine in theology, religion, philosophy, or politics at variance with those of the Catholic Church. Nazism is definitely heretical to Christianity.

With love in Christ.

Which Pope? You're talking about a person and a title.

And Josef Stalin, an Eastern Orthodox Catholic, killed even more people than Hitler.

Hitler was raised in a Catholic family but he was not Catholic. He got his inspiration from Luther and Henry Ford however.
