If I understand your question correctly, call 411, or go to 411.com. You will be able to search for telephone numbers in the US or Canada by inputting the name, business, address, or any other information you know about the number. You can call 411, and the operator will tell you information about the number you wish to dial, and can sometimes even put you through to that number. Both the online and phone service can be used free of charge. Hope this helps!
