Sometimes being someone's best friend can lead to more-than-friendship ... :) Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't ... Trust me, I know the both ways. On the other side, when best friendship comes after falling in love, it's meant to last.

It has to be her decision. Try not to force her make a decision because she might see that differently than you expected. Instead, even if it's hard for you, let her know that you're gonna respect her decision whatever it would be. Tell her that you are there for her and if, by any chance, she won't get all what she was expecting from that guy.

One last advice: avoid, by all means, do your best and avoid telling her what a jerk the other guy is, instead tell her she's got the right to choose. If the other guy is really a jerk as you are sayin', then she is going to realize that sooner or later. This is where she'll return to you, telling how nice of you was to understand her and respect her decision.
If, by any chance, she'll decide to be with the other guy for a long time, then you don't have to be sorry, it's crystal clear she doesn't deserve you. But... one never knows...

Have the guts an let her make her decision, try letting her on her own. You cannot protect her forever. Aren't we all on our own, after all?

Hope this helps

Well, the best you can really do is talk to her more about your feelings, and about the other guy.

You could always actually ask her out on a date type date... and see how she responds... maybe she'll decide to hook up with you, rather than going after the jerk.

But since women seem to have a tendency to like jerks, you may not be able to stop her, or protect her. If that happens, you need to stay close to her as a friend, and be supportive... listen for signs of discontent on her part, comfort her... keep showing that you care.

Good luck - its a tough situation.

Let her make her own decisions. If you try to tell her that she can't be with someone, chances are she won't listen. If she wants to be with him then let her do it. Make sure you tell her the truth that you don't really like the idea of them being together, but also make sure you tell her your true feelings for her and that you'll always be there when she needs you. But if you're really her best friend, the only thing you can do is be there for her when she needs you whether it be as a boyfriend or just a friend. Hope all of this makes some sense. Good luck. =)

Sometimes people have to find things out on their own. You can't protect everyone and can't save people. It's up to her to be with him or not be with him. If you get involved, she may end up getting upset with you. You can only stand by her side with whatever decision she chooses.

You can't protect her, honey. You have to let her make her own way in this one, but be there for her if she gets hurt. This does not mean, however, you cannot warn her; but you have to let her make her own decisions, and you cannot force the issue. It does not work.

Write her a letter that explains everything. If she's freaked, start it with "I'm sorry for being so forward, but I can't hold this secret much longer."
