Funny you should ask I was just thinking of my own experience. I prayed that God would change my mind again and let my will be His and it really helped and I was rewarded with a peace about my backsliding. Remember we are not humans having spiritual experiences we are spiritual beings having human experiences. What I mean is if you read some of David's Psalms you'll see He did this and wrote many Psalms about it. Maybe he did it many times.

Dear Jay,

"Backsliding" is a term that refers to someone who has become familiar with Bible truth but was never saved. This term is used to describe O.T. Israel, who saw the great works of God and the prophets and yet never became saved.
If you are not saved, the best thing to do is to be under the hearing of the word of God. "So then, faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the word of God." FAITH is a synonym for the Lord Jesus Christ. So then, Christ cometh by hearing and hearing by the word of God. Read your Bible slowly and prayerfully, asking the Lord to have mercy on you. This will not assure that you will be saved, but if God has elected you to salvation it will put you in the correct "environment" to be saved.

Salvation is a existence lengthy procedure, not a one time element of declaring you've faith in Jesus. Pray for starters. Then read Genesis 37 to the end of Genesis. Remember Joseph is the Christ metaphor in the story. He is betrayed for silver, stripped of his coat which is dipped in blood, falsely accused, becomes dead to his father and rises as savior of the known world of that day. The story is really an amazing prophecy of Christ. It always builds my faith.

Quit trusting in your feelings to start with, they'll change day to day. Put your trust in God. Children are adopted because they are wanted and loved. They'll not be disowned later.
