However many you want there to be. All that's required, I think, is someone to perform the ceremony and a witness.

There is no limits to how many people are in a wedding. Of course there is a bride and groom...
matron of honor/ maid of honor (depends on if the girl is married which name to use)
the minister
best man
you can have brides maids and groomsmen...you do not have to, but if you do make sure there is an even #
ushers...they help seat your guests
the book signer....they make sure everyone signs your book
flower girl....not necessart but usually played be a small little girl that comes out in front of bride throwing flowers down the isle
Ring bearer...not necessary...a little boy plays this role...carrying the wedding ring pillow...(I would put fake rings on it)
Of course, the father or close male relative gives the bride away
That should be it!! Make sure that you thank everyone for being in your wedding be purchasing gifts.....that is the most polite way!
Also, make sure you get a professional photographer too!!! Good luck and congradulations!!!!

The minimum would be the couple getting married and their witnesses so that would be four people (not counting the minister or justice of the peace). Next would be the attendants and groomsmen (as many as you want I suppose, but 3-5 is all I have ever seen). Then there are the younger members of the bridal party, usually a flower girl and a ring-bearer - sometimes there are junior attendants. The roles of the witnesses is to sign the license. The roles of the attendants varies, sometimes they host bridal showers and bachelor parties. The maid of honor and best man assist the couple by taking care the pesky details like holding onto the bouquet or making sure the groom remembers to bring the ring.

It's up to you how many you have in your party. I didn't have the typical 'girls on one side, boys on the other'. On my side (standing beside me at the alter) was a maid-of-honor, an usher, one flower girl and one ring bearer. On the groom's side was the best person (she was a girl!), an usher, one flower girl and one ring bearer. So, we each had a woman, a man, a little girl and a little boy. We were commented on how unique and beautiful it was. The ushers escort the mothers to their seats. In some formal weddings, the ushers escort all female guests to their seats. Again, that's your preference. The bridesmaids (if you have any. As you see, I didn't) walk down the aisle first. Then, the maid-of-honor. Then comes the ring bearer. I had my 2 nephews as my ring bearers. They were older than most (they were 10 and 11) and I didn't think they'd want to carry those frilly, froo froo pillows, so they carried our open ring boxes down the aisle. The flower girl is next. I had my 2 god-daughters. They shared one basket and sprinkled silk flower pedals on the floor as they walked down the aisle. Then comes the bride, usually escorted by her father. He walks her up to the first pew (if the ceremony is in a church), then places her hand in the grooms hand, gives the bride a kiss and sits next to the mother of the bride. Again, this is all up to you and there is no right or wrong answer as to how many people you have in your party.

However many you want in the wedding.
Some have 6 bridesmaids/groomsmen, some have 3 each etcetc
http://www.theknot.com has a good site and planner to show what each does.
I'm going to have 3 bridesmaids and there will be 3 groomsmen.
If you only want 1 of each then have 1 of each.
You DO NOT need an even number of groomsmen/bridesmaids.
Its your wedding !

Hi There!
I have a link here that takes you to the bridal party's duties:
http://www.maweddingguide.com/planning/weddingparty/weddingparty.htm
Also, you can have as few or as many in your party as you like.
This link shows you the disadvantages of having too large of one.

I hope this is a help to you!
Good luck!!
Happy Wedding! :)
