I have 2 female beagles who were spayed almost a year ago. They both had absorbable blue sutures at the incision site. The sutures have absorbed completely on one of my dogs, but the other dog still has a blue line on her abdomen. The wound has completely healed and is not infected or anything, but it looks like she has a blue tatoo in a straight line at the site. Does this happen often? Do I need to be concerned? Is there anyway to remove the color?

Best bet, check with your vet.

No, I wouldn't be concerned about this. If it would have been a problem, it would have presented itself months ago. I've worked with a vet for 5 years, and I've never heard of that before. I wouldn't worry about trying to remove the color. It's possible that the sutures may have had a type of minor reaction, and the coloring agent in the sutures may have tattooed her skin where they were placed, if I understand you correctly. I would imagine the only way to get rid of that would be to surgically remove the scar, and replace it with more sutures, then you'll be at square one. Don't let it worry you. Best of luck to you.

You need to take her to the vet, you should have taken her a long time ago.
