She was pushing a buggy with all her worldly possessions. My heart went out to her. I stop my car and gave her money. She thanked me. Did I do the right thing?

yes. you went with your heart. you gave because you had what she did not. everyone wants to make a judgment on what the person is going to do with the money. but i think it is more about your heart and once you release the gift it is up to god and what he wants to do with that person and the money. good for you for recognizing we are all part of the human condition on different levels. it is not for us to judge. i myself was on the streets at one time and just to be acknowledged was very life affirming. Jesus said to give he didn't say to follow up and see what the person would do with what you gave them.not everyone on the street is capable of holding down a job and it is not because of drugs or alcohol, there is mental or physical illness or other losses involved and life becomes about survival. thank you for sharing kindness and love.

I think thats a beautiful thing. You saw something that bothered you and you reacted. You didnt hesitate.

There are not many homeless where I live....unless I go into the city. When I see this homeless man usually sitting outside the grocery/mini mall....I have...many times.....went in and bought him a few bottles of water, a sandwhich ...and a few things that wont go bacd...like peanutbutter and crackers....Rather than give money...because I feel more comfortable with that. He always tells me.."God Bless You".

If I am in the city I will give my left overs if I see someone. There is plenty of drug use in the homeless community but just as much mental illness. I dont think cash us ideal......but it is far better that you did something...sometimes...you only have time to react.

Good for you.

You bet you did. I know a lot of homeless folks are on drugs or alcoholics but no one wants to be this way. Some are just not strong enough to make it . Some folks on the street are there because of some bad luck and nothing they did wrong . I always think -there but for the grace of God goes I. God Bless you.

There's always the risk that she might use the money for something that will harm herself or others, like drugs or alcohol, but there's a greater chance that it will benefit her.

The most important thing is that you made a connection. You reminded her that she's not alone.

no. don't encorage poverty by giving people free things. they'll get used to not having to work (except by looking pathetic) to get things.
