I say ee' thur. I'm from the Floridian South.

When I hear someone say it as eye' thur I immediatly pull up images of Thurston Howell the third and his wife. It sounds so pretentious to my relaxed ears to hear it spoken so "formally".

The Americans pronounced it as "ee-thur" but the British pronounced it as "eye-thur". So it depends on which one is more convenient to you. Either pronunciation is correct. As for me, I think it is more correct to follow the "Queen's English" rather than "Cowboy's English, Hollywood English or President Bush's English." Just for fun. It is time to be jolly, isn't it?

ee-thur sounds better in Brisbane,Qls - Australia.

As you make your way westwards you may happen upon the EYE variation more often, though.

I say it both ways, and I think it depends somehow in the sounds in the preceeding words. I do the same thing with "neither" (nee-ther and nye-ther).

And for the record, I am a native Oregonian, born and raised right here (though my grandparents are from Texas and Colorado).
