When I was in Baghdad last year, they gave us cell phones. These cell phones could receive phone calls from the US. Our families had to call a number in Virginia, and from there, the call went by satellite. it sounded like they were next door, but there was a slight delay.

No, because Kuwait and Canada run different network types. You need to either A) buy 2 different SIM cards (one for each network type) or B) buy a global phone that works on any network. They're a little bit pricier, but it's simpler than different SIM cards and will work on any network in the world. As for companies, the big one in the US is Cingulair, which works world wide.

No. Just buy a cheapo cell phone and buy service in kuwait, plus the simm card. More more affordable than a sat phone.
