I have had dogs and cats for years. The coexist very well.
They will adapt to eachother and will realize that they belong
to your family. They may chase eachother at first but usually learn to be friends. I have two of each as well as a cockatiel that can walk around on the floor and neither the cats or the dogs will bother the bird.
Ironically they are color coordinated. I have a male Golded Retriever and a gold colored tabby as well as a female German Shepherd and what I believe is called a Torti (female) which possesses the same colors as the Shepherd.

One cat was from the humane society and the other was
abandoned at a farmhouse and have never had a problem with any of them. Works best when they are both young, but I have
gotten new cats with old dogs and vice versa and they all
have done well.

Have at it!!!

Maybe, maybe not. A puppy's personality can change drastically as it hits puberty. A puppy that loved the kitten may wake up one day and kill the cat at 2 years of age. There are plenty of horror stories of puppies who grow up to kill the family cat/yorkie/rabbit/etc. The best guarantee is to have an ADULT dog with no prey drive and a cat who doesn't run from dogs.

yes. In fact, they may even learn to snuggle which is so, very cute. When they first get together the kitten may feel overwhelmed by the puppy's willingness to say hello, but will get used to its new sibling. The puppy may even seem a little rough, but the kittens drive to play will force it to adapt and learn how to play as rough as the puppy. The kitten may even make the puppy yelp, but that is all part of the learning curve. Let them figure each other out.

Yes. I thank its vital to have the two interact when they are young. Either they become friends later in life or they just simply tolerate each other. Either one is good and chaos free, so yeah while the puppy is young i reccomed you get a little kitten around the same age if you ever plan on having a cat with this dog around.

Yes, it would be better than geting one when the puupy is older, because it would be less likely that they would get along.
So if you want a kitten, the sooner the better!
