You should expect him to pay but there are some guys that don't so I always have money I offer to pay my way and if he is a true gentleman he will pay for you. If not than move on guys should pay for the first date now later on if it gets serious you should help pay some.

A guy should always pay for the first date, especially if he asked her out. A guy should also pay for the rest of the dates too.

If I asked a girl on a date, I expect to pay, unless you said at the time we are going as friends. If it is a romantic date, I pay if I ask.

I wouldn't even let a guy pay for a date, first or not. My philosophy on dating is this: Split the check, or split. I am an equal, and I deserve to be treated like one.

Whoever does the asking should expect to pay, unless the other party offers to split the cost. However, if you're not sure if he's going to pay, you should bring enough money to pay for yourself.
