I have never seen a recipe where chocolate is measured in cups. All the recipes that I have seen or used, measure in ounces. Each square is one ounce, and there are usually eight squares in a package. I guess that would make one cup, so four squares would make one half of a cup.
Melt them and find out for your self.

Baker's chocolate come in squares of 1 ounce each..therefore, 4 squares weigh 4 ounces, which should be equal to 1/2 cup.
