I need the sound editor to be able to separate all of the different sounds. Such as background noise from people talking. this program needs to be a free download, and if possible, not a free trial. But trials are fine. thanks!

Try using audacity: http://audacity.sourceforge.net/
It's pretty good, I use it, and it is completely free.

search for "Crystal Audio freeware" at Downloads.com. Its scaleable, It will allow multiple track recording as well as Midi if you feel adventurous, and it can be adapted to multi monitor setups... It also comes with a complete set of DSP's to help tweak or position the sound for dimensionality. Its a very nice piece of software and it also supports pro audio cards or multiple audio cards. Its a donation based licence and its worth it.

Audacity is good, but if you're like me you want to carry it around with me so I can plug it into different computers. I use AudaCity Portable. its free and its real great. You can get it at http://www.portableapps.com/.
