Because people live in denial in acknowledging that this is one of the oldest borne "control issues" in the world.

What better way to get a kid to listen, behave and "do as you're told" than the whole "Santa Claus is looking at his list if you're naughty or nice!" concept.

It's all a control issue thing. Look what happens when we grow up and find out how disappointed we are that it all wasn't real and we were being good the whole year just for pure defunct fantasy.

Subconsciously we wind up rebelling even into adulthood and you can see all the problems(disfunctionality) we have here in this world because of our ancient childhood frustrations/let downs all because we had to believe in some mere "SANTA CLAUS" and being "nice" and the "reward" (or lack of) policy in place.

Maybe this world would be a nicer place if we all decide to be genuinely nice to eachother year round without a reward in sight. Maybe if it came out of our hearts just because it was "the right thing to do" instead of rewards. Just a thought.

Happy holidays Everyone! Don't forget to be NICE or ELSE! ;)

Because he is real, he once walked this earth as we do. St. Nicholas was a Christian man who went around and gave gifts secretly. He did this out of the kindness of his heart. By allowing our children to believe in Santa we allow them to live the Magic that sorrounds Christmas. The idea of Santa Claus really is about what St. Nick stood for. Having Santa within our Holiday's is a reminder of how we as people should be, selfless and loving. We aren't trying to lie to our children. We are trying to teach them the values in which Santa stand for. Most kids understand why their parents did what they did once they grow, I did. Good Luck & God Bless!

Were you damaged when you found out? Come on, have some fun and let kids be kids. A child's fantasy of Santa is short-lived and they'll find out soon enough. Life can be tough and Santa Claus is a good diversion. I don't know anyone who's been traumatized to find out it's just a make believe story.

It's not that serious...children need to have something to believe in!

I'm not so crazy about the whole Santa Clause thing myself...I've always told my children Mommie and Daddy Clause would leave gifts for good little children on Christmas Eve.

Yet they still watch the Christmas specials, and they still take pictures with Old St. Nick, etc......because it's fun for them.

Finding out that Santa Claus is not real helps prepare them for other epiphanies they may encounter throughout their life experience.

its because children are rewarded for their behavior. if they are bad they get nothing for christmas. so the parents say that someone else is watching them to see if they are good or bad to keep their children in line. its different than saying that the parents are the ones that will reward them because the children know that no matter what the parents will get them presents

Because it's something we want to do, and if it affects you so bad when or if you have kids tell them what you want, but for me and my kids Santa is real.
