There are multiple viruses (rhino viruses) that cause symptoms of common cold. Because they continuously mutate there is no way to count them.

Cold viruses & computer viruses multiply at about the same rate. Some are curable, others need expert help & advice. You'll never find a cure for all of them, as they mutate & sometimes become immune to the standard remedies.

theres only one..the trouble is it has dozens of relatives.. who are quite happpy interbreeding... and thats why the virus is so hard to quantify and even harder to eradicate.
