I do not know man. Maybe some pople are just too full of themselves and their religion. Shawn O and the others force can be used to mean physical, verbal, or even writen persuasion. You are assuming much by sayin that the writer is talking about physical violence. I as former Christian know how this man is thiking some Christian view points. Some Christians think that they are right and everyone else is wrong.

The 1st Amendment says "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion,or prohibiting the free exercise thereof;" etc.
It means the government can not make any one worship or not worship a certain way.
If by "FORCE" you mean that some people pester you by trying to "convert you ... In some cases that might be "free exercise" (for them not you)
Added: I'm also former Military (USAF 20 yrs) When I was in you had to be very care full how and who you you talked to about your religion, so that it didn't appear you were trying to put pressure on people. Having said that "Force" implies some sort of penalty (earthly, not hell). Just trying to convert you at worse just makes the person a pain in the butt.

I see nothing is the First Amendment that says we shouldn't "FORCE" (I am glad that's in quotes because sharing what we believe with other is far from having a gun in their backs) our religion on you or anyone else. The Government is forbidden from so doing but Christian are commanded to do so:
Matthew 28:19-20
Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world....

Religion does not have much to do with the 1st amendment. That only means you have the freedom to practice whatever religion you want in this country. Religious people are trying to help you by sharing the knowledge they have of one religion for your benefit.

As far as my religion of Christianity goes they made it up. In the bible God clearly states that choice is our God given right and why people of my faith fail to see it I just can't say. Who am I to take away any right God gave. It is my commission to spread the Good News of His love and desire to reconcile with humanity and His desire to change us from the inside out with our permission.
The way some of us Christians carry on you would think that they don't believe the Good News of His Love is sufficient to change people's minds. He however does and I believe Him. I was not changed by fear of Hell but by the acceptance of God's love. It is my personal belief that the rules are more for the born again than the unbeliever. I mean once I believed that is when I wanted to change.
I believe that the founders of this country were aware of our God given rights but some of our religious leaders lack faith in God to change people on a individual bases and believe the only way to be safe is to legistlate laws for God. Like if people are godless then somehow government could take the place of God's power and grace in their lives. What a crock.
Man made laws will never be as effective as the one's that God has promised to write on our hearts if we accept Jesus and the Holy Spirit into our lives and hearts.
I saw this special on TV last night and I saw other religious leaders saying pretty much the same as me. It made me feel a lot better to know I'm not alone in my beliefs and that all people practicing Christianity are not as mean spirited as we see on TV. The people of Christianity practicing this habit of forcing beliefs on people are at the very least misguided and may actually hender people coming to know God.

Hopefully, most people don't FORCE it on you. But as for Jehovah's Witnesses, we feel we have an important, life-saving message and so of course we want everyone to know what it is! It is also following Jesus' example, and the command at Matthew 28:19,20.

How do people "FORCE" anything onto you?
That line of nonsense is as old as the Internet itself.
Especially if you're talking about discussions on the internet?
You are the one who chooses the website to visit.
You are the one who clicks the links.
You are the one that reads the page.
Sounds more like YOU are forcing yourself to read or listen to other people's views and beliefs.

I am a Christian (Baptist) I have never forced myself on anyone. If you ask me to share my faith with you I will. I usually don't talk to strangers about anything. If you are not a believer I will pray for you. If you faith is not strong I will pray for you. If you want nothing to do with me then I will leave you alone.
Merry Christmas

While I don't force my beliefs on anybody, I do share them, as I KNOW what the love of Jesus has done to make my life so great. A Blessed Christmas to you.
