My sister sometimes makes jokes about me when we are around each other at the holidays. It seems like she wants us to be close but I get worked up thinking about being around her. How can I be calm and what can I do if she makes a joke about me?

Just ignore it and remember that you can only control yourself. Mention it to her if you feel like it or you can dish it back.

So My brother comes over to the house. He isn't in the front door more than 30 seconds before he says something about my thinning hair. I just giggle and say, well at least I can walk through the door without having to turn sideways. Without any hesitation mom says "you two idiots take it outside". At my house giving each other grief is a show of love. The less often you see someone the crueler the put down needs to be.

Well, does she do it around other people, or just when it's the two of you? If she only does it with you two, maybe you can try to not be alone with her, to avoid that situation. If she does it wtih other people there, next time she does it, maybe you can ask to speak to her privately, and tell her that it makes you uncomfortable when she jokes about you. You could tell her that you want to have a close relationship with her, but her teasing is doing more harm than good, and makes you want to avoid her.

If u get uncomfortable, u should just excuse urself and leave and take a walk to calm down. OR u could talk with her and become closer in another way.

Make a joke back at her. If she says your fat say look who's talking. If she says something about your hair tell her she needs to get her's styled. After a while she will figure she can't intimidate you anymore and she will stop. Good luck!

Ah honey listen to how she says it. If she's cruel about it tell her it hurts you that she messes with you. If it's not intended to be hurtful give it right back to her. Don't ever take things people say personally, you give them way too much power when you do, trust me on that one :)
